MUTANTE
Arts and Life Sciences Laboratory
Mutante is a laboratory for arts and life sciences where we research, create, and share knowledge around emerging digital and bio media. Our creative work standing in the undisciplined, open, collaborative, and communitarian explores new/other understandings of the living and of technologies, through alternative, living, adaptative, mutant, and interspecies processes. We open encounter spaces, courses, workshops, and laboratories to promote and enable collaborative creation at different scales, among them the Mutante Space, for experimental education, and the Suratómica Network for Creation - Art and Science.
PROJECTS
Connected to our research/creation projects, we carry out collective processes to create artworks, within the laboratory and in collaboration with diverse communities. We explore different emerging media and techniques, digital and bio, to create interactive installations, bio-inspired digital technologies, generative sculptures, interconnected narratives, illustrations with bacteria, speculative organisms or devices, and even board games.

Research/creation
We develop research/creation projects in which we explore the artistic, poetic, and narrative possibilities of emerging digital and bio media. Our creative processes are undisciplined and are crossed by collective practices or communitarian educational ones. The most recent art and science projects, such as Other [tiny] forms of life, are ecosystems of creation that are not only focused on the creation of an artistic piece as an outcome, but seek to conform a complex experience to approach the diverse ways of knowing and creating, which in turn require experimental methodologies and processes.

The mutante space
The Mutante Space is a hybrid space for experimental education. Through creation laboratories, workshops, and theoretical courses that connect artistic creation practices and emerging digital and bio media, we want to open a space for encounter and co-creation that promotes the arts, life sciences, and technology in our region, outside traditional educational spaces and processes.

SURATÓMICA NETWORK
Suratómica is a network of organizations, groups, collectives, and creatives at a global scale that, under the ideas of collaboration and openness, generates diverse spaces of undisciplined encounters for new knowledge creation. With a focus on Latin America, the Suratómica Network promotes new dialogues between diverse ways of knowing, opening spaces for creation and experimentation to strengthen reflection on the arts, sciences, society and alternative forms of organization.
